Introduction

There are many radio stations operating across London. Some of them cover the whole city, whereas others cover a smaller part of London and maybe part of the home counties too. Increasingly in recent years, many community radio stations are popping up on the dial. These are non-profit stations which are licensed to serve a particular community over a geographically small area. This page contains information about Independent Local Radio, BBC local stations, and community licensed stations on the FM band, as well as London frequencies for national stations. The aim is to help with identification of stations, find further information, or perhaps discover a new station which you haven’t listened to before.

London FM Radio Stations

These are the FM radio stations which are either London based or include London in their intended coverage area. This includes national radio stations, ILR stations, BBC local stations, and stations which are operating with a community license.

Home Counties FM Radio Stations

These are FM radio stations which can be received in parts of London, but whose intended coverage area does not include London. Some of these stations can be received reliably in many parts of London, whereas others can only be received on the borders of London and the home counties. The actual coverage depends a lot on your antenna system, your radio, and atmospheric conditions, so you may find you can receive stations which aren’t featured in this list.

Other London FM Radio Stations

This page does not include any information on RSL stations, because these stations broadcast for periods of 28 days or less per year and have very limited coverage areas. Keeping track of these would be difficult and error prone. You can view the Ofcom current RSL list for details of current FM (and AM) RSL stations. This article also has no information on pirate broadcasters, as these can change regularly too. You can find details of these in the London’s FM Pirate Radio Stations article.
